Meet Patty Hampton!
// By Jacqueline Brennan
PH: I am driven by transformative leaders that continue to have enough fight in them to make a difference in the organizations they serve. I am working on an app that will revolutionize how we engage talent across the country. I am inspired by my two sons who have stepped into their power as up and coming entrepreneurs. Both are hungry for success and they don’t underestimate the fact that it takes commitment and hard work to turn a puddle into a wave when it comes to business.
Q: Who are your three favorite changemakers in history (living or deceased) – and very briefly, why?
PH: My three favorite changemakers are President Barack Obama, Angela Glover Blackwell (PolicyLink Founder), and Rashad Robinson (Color of Change President). In these current economic times we have an opportunity to learn and lead from the best. Each of these leaders are disruptors and their spirit, courage, and commitment is a beacon of light that continues to shine brilliantly.
Q: What drew you to a career in the social sector?
PH: I was drawn to the social sector when I was six years old, before I even understood the depth of what the sector offers so many today. I continue to be encouraged by this sense of community that I grew up with in the streets of Detroit. Today we must continue to identify our commonality in all communities that will help us all thrive.
Q: If you could invite any group or individual to Upswell, who would it be – and why?
PH: At a recent conference, Angela Glover Blackwell left an imprint on my heart with two challenges. She shared that we all need radical imagination and transformative solidarity to master the economic times we are experiencing.
