Downtown LA Tour: A walk through women’s contributions to Los Angeles

Downtown LA Tour: A walk through women’s contributions to Los Angeles

// By Jacqueline Brennan

Residents and tourists alike flood the sidewalks and streets of downtown Los Angeles any given day. With world-famous restaurants, museums, galleries, and other thriving businesses—the city’s center serves as a vital part of LA culture. The city of Los Angeles is complex—and so are its challenges. Nonprofits and foundations like The California Endowment, Downtown Women’s Center, Southern California Grantmakers, and The California Wellness Foundation have home offices in downtown LA—the heart of the city—and all work tirelessly to meet the challenges with innovative solutions to advance the common good.

LA Inside & Out’s Downtown LA walking tour will be led by historian and Walk Ambassador Victoria Bernal with @LAHistory, listed by Los Angeles Magazine as one of “the 50 Twitter accounts everyone in L.A. should follow.” Participants will experience the rich history and invaluable contributions women have made over centuries in shaping Los Angeles into the great city it is today. Coined the Downtown LA Women’s History Walk, attendees will hear stories of both famed and unsung heroes, and “walk” away with a better understanding of the impact women have made on the Los Angeles community.

The walking tour will begin at the Upswell host site, the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, and will cover a lot of ground with visits to various sites in downtown Los Angeles.

LA Inside & Out tours are half-day immersion experiences where you’ll actively participate in a journey into dynamic LA neighborhoods where real changework is happening, and be inspired by what you learn to create real change in your community, too.
