Shifting the nonprofit healthcare paradigm
// By Jacqueline Brennan
Be sure to check out their presentation in Upswell’s Public Square for details on their goal to change how nonprofits, as employers, purchase and provide health care benefits for their workforce. We asked Natasha Orozco, Community and Client Relations Manager at Nonstop, about their mission and efforts to reimagine healthcare and make it more equitable for nonprofits and their employees.
Q: What does Nonstop hope to achieve at Upswell?
NO: We believe that employees shouldn’t have to choose between their financial and physical health, and that nonprofit employers shouldn’t have to struggle to maintain health equity within the workforce.
At Upswell, we hope to inspire and motivate nonprofit leaders to take control of how they purchase and provide health insurance for their employees. And we hope these leaders will return to their organizations committed to dedicating time, talent, and resources toward seeking out new ways take control of their health insurance spending.
Q:What’s one thing that might surprise Upswell changemakers about Nonstop?
NO: One thing that might be surprising about Nonstop is that we exclusively serve and work for the nonprofit sector. We know that being able to pay a competitive wage is the number one challenge for many nonprofit employers. We also know, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s 2018 Employer Health Benefits Annual Survey, that deductibles have grown by 212 percent since 2008, which is eight times faster than wage growth. As a business, our mission is to revolutionize how nonprofits purchase their employees’ health insurance.
Q: What are you most looking forward to at Upswell?
NO: Upswell is going to be an energetic and solution-driven experience, so I would have to say that I’m most looking forward to taking part in conversations with leaders who are passionate about advancing health equity within their organization. And we’re looking forward to sharing our solution, the Nonstop Wellness program, to a need we’ve identified among nonprofits. At Nonstop, we hope to be a catalyst for change in the nonprofit sector. We want to support nonprofits in their efforts to provide affordable, quality employer-sponsored health care benefits for their employees while protecting them from the financial obstacles that often comes with that. Overall, we’re excited to attend Upswell and we can’t wait to connect with forward-thinking leaders who recognize the importance of challenging the status quo.
