Help shape the nonprofit sector’s 2020 policy agenda

// By Jacqueline Brennan

With the 2020 election cycle underway, the nonprofit community has a tremendous opportunity to get our most pressing issues on the radar of current candidates and future legislators. But to really harness the sector’s energy, “all of us, collectively, must be driving in the same direction and asking the right things from the candidates,” says Ben Kershaw, director of public policy and government relations at Independent Sector.

If the sector’s future is of critical concern to you, join Ben and other changemakers to help shape our 2020 policy agenda and focus our advocacy efforts during the Upswell workshop, “What Do We Want from the 2020 Candidates?

“We believe that every nonprofit professional, every changemaker, has an opportunity and an obligation to advocate for policies at any level that would help advance their mission. This workshop will present some real expertise on key issues that are shaping the future of the nonprofit sector and offer changemakers a chance to engage with other really smart people who’ll be in the room.”

The session will help you break through the often harsh campaign noise and get candidates’ attention about what really matters to changemakers and their missions to address some of the country’s toughest issues.

“I’m a tax policy nerd, so I think people should get excited because we get to talk about federal policy in this session,” says Ben. But if tax policy isn’t quite your cup of tea, he says you’ll still leave the session pumped about contributing to the development of the sector’s 2020 policy agenda, and “helping to focus the sector’s advocacy efforts – and the attention of the candidates – on issues that are important to you.”

What Do We Want from the 2020 Candidates? is happening Thursday, November 14 from 4:15 – 5:30pm.
