Aida Mariam

Decolonize Design

For over 15 years, Aida has dedicated her career to transformative change in and across organizations. Most recently she worked to design, create and implement the Parent Innovation Institute. This project was the first of its kind to focus on capacity building, technical skills and prototype development. She successfully trained teams of parents and staff in the mechanics of co-design and continuous improvement. Prior to creating the Parent Innovation Institute, Aida led community organizing efforts for Youth Uprising in East Oakland. As the Chief of Community Leadership, Aida led several campaigns to advance aggressive community transformation without displacement. She attended the University of California, Berkeley where she studied Political Science and African American Studies and holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California in Public Policy and Public Administration.
