Emily joined Independent Sector in May 2021 as the manager of policy research, where she advances public policy research, development, and analysis that helps increase the capacity of nonprofits to fulfill their missions. She focuses on incorporating intersectional equity into research design, policy development, and analysis. Her work places a special emphasis on research-to-practice, leveraging evidence-based practices to inform and educate nonprofit practitioners.

With 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Emily brings a deep understanding of the needs of nonprofit organizations, and the role research can play in advancing their impact. Emily holds a masters degree in public administration, a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from George Mason University’s Schar School for Policy and Government, and a bachelor of arts in Women’s and Gender Studies from the College of Charleston.
