Bio
Lisa Gale, PhD, joined StoryCorps as Chief Program Officer in 2017. She is a member of the organization’s five-member executive team and oversees StoryCorps’ production of broadcast content and animated shorts; the interview collection (including the MobileTour, StoryBooths in Atlanta and Chicago, and Community Partnerships/National Facilitators); Community Training; Recording and Archive; and Research and Evaluation. Previously, Dr. Gale was Deputy Commissioner of Employment Services for the New York City Human Resources Administration, where she shepherded the agency’s transformation from a “one size fits all” to a customized and tailored approach to employment and education for recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In her twenty five year career, Dr. Gale has worked with grassroots, regional and national not-for-profit organizations and has focused on economic/community development, adult education and media. She holds a bachelor’s in marketing and consumer research, a master’s in social work, and a doctorate in social welfare, the latter focused on nonprofit social enterprise.
