Bio

Richard Brown is the Vice President of Philanthropy at American Express where he oversees all three of the company’s global giving programs Community Service, Historic Preservation and Leadership, which includes the Partners in Preservation program with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the World Monument Watch, as well as the American Express Leadership Academy.  Additionally, Mr. Brown was a key presenter of the first-ever White House Forum on Nonprofit Leadership and played a leading role in the development of plusacumen.org, leaderstories.org and leaderosity.com — on-line leadership development and support platforms for social purpose leaders.

Mr. Brown was the Corporate Secretary and Program Manager responsible for board relations, staff management, venture philanthropy and program development at the Goldman Sachs Foundation.  Previously, Mr. Brown held leadership positions in corporate philanthropy at AT&T Wireless, Toys “R” Us, the Texaco Foundation and Altria.

Mr. Brown is also a trustee of the Lincoln Fund — a Foundation that supports a wide-range of community-based programs in New York City and a member of the Education and Research Foundation of the BBB of Metro NY Board of Trustees. A graduate of Syracuse University, Mr. Brown has an MS Degree in Organizational Change Management from The Milano Graduate School at the New School University in New York.
