From Chaos to Clarity: Four Pivots for Aligning Coalitions To Achieve Equity

Location: Lone Star Ballroom (2nd floor, Convention)

Spark Talk

Dismantling systemic barriers to achieve equitable outcomes requires working alongside a range of diverse players to advance a shared vision. We know that engaging a broad range of perspectives leads to stronger solutions, but sometimes working with a diverse network or coalition can feel chaotic. How do you get diverse stakeholders, each serving different communities and with its own unique mission and goals, to move together in pursuit of equity?

In this session, speakers will share their experiences working with a range of diverse networks and coalitions, and offer four pivots in thinking that can equip coalitions and networks to move in one direction. Presenters will share the story of the Healthy Food Community of Practice — a network of more than 50 organizations working together in pursuit of a world where BIPOC communities have equitable access to healthy food — to illustrate how individual players bring different contexts, perspectives, and priorities to the table and how coalitions can identify points of intersection and bring intentionality toward working together in pursuit of a bold goal.

You’ll walk away with new ideas and strategies for changing your mindset to get “unstuck” on challenges you may be facing in your collaborative work.
