Alex Joensen is a Senior Program Officer on the Community Engagement Exchange (CEE) and Community Solutions Programs (CSP) at IREX. In his role, Alex works to establish and nurture relationships with U.S. organizations by conducting outreach, facilitating practicum placements, designing supports, and fostering civil society networks domestically and abroad.

Prior to joining IREX, Alex worked for over three years on the U.S. State Department-funded Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD). Alex has extensive experience in education, serving as both a French undergraduate lecturer in College Park, Maryland and Washington, DC and an English instructor in Strasbourg, France.

Alex holds an M.A. in French Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a dual B.A. in Political Science and French with a certificate in European Studies from the Catholic University of America. When not working, you’ll find Alex collecting jazz records and trying new teas.
